Description
OBM is known for producing exceptional quality knife making tools & since we don’t like sitting around we thought that it would be fun to unleash our state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities on some folding knives!
Our initial offering, symbolically given the model name GENESIS, is a smooth action flipper designed by one of the finest knife makers on the planet, Andre Thorburn. Andre has collaborated with us in all aspects, from a drawing on a napkin right down to putting the edge on the completed knives.
OBM’s philosophy of creating the very best products at the best possible pricing holds true for the Genesis: by incorporating features like the IKBS bearing system, the Genesis is a hardworking, everyday carry knife but with features found only on folders costing two to three times as much. Four & a half inches folded and weighing only 4 ounces thanks to premium materials like its titanium liners & G10 handles, this is a knife made to be used daily & also carried comfortably in a pocket. Once you handle the Genesis it’s difficult to put it down; one instantly becomes aware of the superior quality, from the butter smooth flipper action, to the satisfying locking “click”.
We have a few different variations available, each described under the features tab & identified by a specific part number.
PROUDLY MADE IN OREGON, USA.

A word about online reviewers:
Social media brings with it self-proclaimed “experts” since anyone with a smartphone can very easily shoot a “review” video & instantly upload it to the internet. Absolutely zero qualifications are needed, the reviewer does not need to know anything at all in order to review a product. This in itself is not all that amazing, what’s truly astonishing about Homo Sapiens is just how many of us “follow” such wholly unqualified social media stars, slurping up everything they dish up, whether the information is true or false, without questioning what qualifies them to do a review? Part of their success is the fact that Youtube allows them to edit out fair, critical comments, further skewing their so-called reviews.
A clever guy once said that only a man who has never produced anything with his own hands will criticize something which another man has created. Many of these online reviewers start by describing the manufacturing techniques which they believe a manufacturer used to make a product, whereas nothing is further from the truth. For instance one knife reviewer describes the aesthetic dimples in the back of the liners of a very high end folder as being “done by file at the hand of the maker”. As a cutting edge manufacturer it becomes glaringly obvious that this person has zero manufacturing knowledge, the liners on the knife in question are entirely made on a cnc mill (as is the case with most modern folders). What’s sad about this is that his “followers” are effectively being misled.
Our Genesis has been described as ‘Shockingly Good’ by one online reviewer, but the price, weight & blade material is attacked. We find it almost comical to see the reviewer compare the knife to much lesser models. Also, as the reviewer takes the knife apart it once again becomes clear that he has zero technical background. If he was in fact qualified to take a knife apart he would know how to lock the pivot. Also, sadly again, if the person had any manufacturing experience he would be able to recognize features in the design & creation of the knife that sets it apart from other knives in its class & warrant the higher selling price. For instance, if the reviewer possessed some micrometers he could for instance measure the extreme tolerances of the components & point out to his viewers that this is the kind of thing that is unseen, but sets an awesome knife apart from a run-of-the-mill knife. Also, someone with precision manufacturing experience would instantly be drawn to the stand-off’s. The recesses in which they sit in the liners & the shoulders turned into them is one of the things that makes the Genesis a $325 knife. Such engineering is extremely hard to achieve & costs extra time hence extra money, but it makes a great knife (the liners cannot move parallel to each other). The amount of standoff’s is also critical, it inter alia determines the sound the knife makes on opening. The same goes for the 80 thou thick liners, something you usually only find on much more expensive knives.
Come on folk, if you’re going to brand yourself a reviewer & make your millions of your Youtube royalties, at least get some qualifications. Visit some of the top makers, SEE how a knife is made, ask them how many hours they lie awake, sweating over the Swiss watch like tolerances they have to keep. Instead of calling a knife “nice”, with very little technical reasons why, or calling the price “meh”, without knowing what it costs to get there, or sneering at blade steel without knowing how it is made to perform with the correct technology, get some measuring skills, learn how to take the thing apart correctly, learn the difference in laser cut gimping & wire edm gimping, provide a better service for your viewers.
